Go Sighting #2: Takagawa Shukaku Calligraphy Scroll

This beautiful scroll of calligraphy is from my personal collection and is written, signed, and sealed by Takagawa Shukaku, a great modern go player who successfully defended the Honinbo title eight years straight from 1952 to 1960. The five main words seem to say “人生在括中” which roughly translates to “Life is lived within an enclosure”. The scroll is approximately 188.0cm high by 41.5cm wide while the vertically mounted calligraphy is about 128.0cm high by 30.5cm wide.
