Go Sighting #7 Storks and Crows Wooden Go Bowls

Storks and Crows Wooden Go Bowls

These are just two of the most beautiful go bowls I’ve ever seen offered. It was auctioned a while ago and included 180 clamshell go stones and 180 nachiguro slate go stones both with a thickness of 0.9cm. This masterpiece is carved with quite a few storks and crows prancing around white and black go stones on the outside of the bowls. Most storks are carved on the bowl holding clamshell go stones and most crows are carved on the bowl holding slate go stones. The seller did not say exactly how old the bowls are but says that they came from an old family and are probably from around the Meiji or Taisho era. Not easy to find a great set of go bowls like these nowadays. Wish I had a pair like these.
